Father charged with raping priest, stabbing him twice in car

A priest was arrested Tuesday in California on suspicion of raping a 13-year-old boy in the car while his other brother was driving the vehicle, authorities said.

The Fresno County Sheriff’s Department said a male victim, identified as 25-year old Richard E. Crespo, was in the vehicle with his brother when he was raped by a priest in the early hours of March 12 in Fresno, California.

A Fresno County sheriff’s deputy spotted the man and reported the matter to the Fresno County District Attorney’s Office.

The man was taken to Fresno Regional Medical Center where he was treated for multiple injuries, authorities reported.

The priest has been charged with felony rape, attempted rape and sexual assault, the sheriff’s department said.

A statement from the Fresno Sheriff’s department added that Crespi is a member of the Diocese of Fresno.

The Diocese said in a statement that it was deeply saddened to learn of the incident.
